I agree with your general point that the Spanish (like the Aztec) weren't a orgy of nonstop violence or oppression (in fact I think they're playing up Cortes's bloodthirstiness too much in the Batman movie), and had positive achievements etc, but the Crown did actually violate it's agreement with Tlaxcala, see pic. I'm also skeptical of the idea that Dona Isabel had more rights under the Spanish then in Mexica society: For example, when f local nobles or royalty tried to get their status recognized within the Spanish colonial system (as brought up in >>213089249) an issue they often ran into was Spain not acknowledging status passed down matrilineally like Mesoamerican culture did

But I don't know enough about women in Spanish culture to make a deeper comparison to the rights women had in Mesoamerica (and the Mexica specifically may have given women less rights then some other Nahua/"Aztec" groups, the Maya, Mixtec, Zapotec etc)

Also re: Spanish recording Mesoamerican languages/histories, yes, but they also would not have needed to had they not gone out of their way to destroy existing records and practices to begin with.. As seen in the quotes I link from /v/ in >>213092339 , a number of friars called out other ones for doing so

I actually didn't know the execution of Cacama was the instigating incident for the Tecoaque stuff, can you post more info?

If they were just thinking of La Noche Triste I don't see why they'd bring up Cacama's execution and the ties between Texcoco and Zultepec. Bringing up the Toxcatl massacre still makes sense since that kicked off the chain of events that led to the deaths of Cacama + other Tlatoani, and as the Toxcatl massacre was a turning point when the Spanish stopped being trusted by some groups

In what way do you think I'm being less impartial now? I'm legitimately asking and want to know, as I still always strive to be
