Admittedly I should've noticed the leaves and branch placement before, but I've only ever noticed the shape and texture. They're both fairly close in thickness, so the thing that stuck out to me was the bark texture. I guess I was really used to being able to tell beech/birch apart because they're so different. Same goes for oak since that's thick as fuck.
