All the good historical American companies like Hamilton and Ball are held by foreign entities now. That and Timex which may as well be a cheap chinese shitter company at this point. There is proper American watchmaking still happening but you're looking at more artisanal work in the $10000-20000 price ranges, maybe more. There's a small company called RGM Watch Co. that is based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and once in a while I humor the idea of ordering one because I live relatively nearby and I think it would be cool to have a real American watch made in Lancaster the way they used to be but they're asking $15-20k for steel watches. It's a little much for a literally who brand.
What sort of price limit do you have in mind? If you're considering getting into Tag price points you should also be looking around at Tudor, Breitling, Omega, Longines, depending on what you're looking for maybe Cartier. It depends on what kind of watch you want and where you want to wear it, is it for going to parties and formal stuff or is it for going hiking or working in the yard or swimming or something?
