I can't say, but personally I just find it fairly annoying that people pick apart the past and say that "in this year, people were fairly unhappy" as if that elevates the current era and absolves its architects of their sins. Yes, it's fairly ignorant to say that people were happier in the past when surely there were points in history where things were worse, but ultimately it's a blanket statement which bespeaks of the zeitgeist of the time being one of misery, toil, and spiritual isolation when at the very least those in the past were absent at least the solitude of being surrounded by countless people that they have nothing in common with and can't form a connection with anybody.
