When i was young, I did play games avidly, but as years went by, my enthusiasm for games has dwindled largely because there's nothing interesting to me conceptually.
One of my all time favorites was Psi Ops, and I oh so longed for its successor, thinking things will only improve with new hardware, but it never came.
Control looked like it, I tried it out and was massively dissapointed by its gameplay sucking. But what dissapointed me even more was utter absence of discourse around the gameplay, it's like people stopped actually talking about what actually matters, and it's the gameplay, so I just realized this landscape changed far too much for me to enjoy it.
I guess industry kinda crashed in 2006-2013 and never really recovered since.
in 10s and especially 20s, I mostly just played indies, like hotline miami, undertale, project nexus, my friend pedro, and now coffin.
I can't blame younger people for not really playing games because what is even worth playing nowadays? most of it is simplistic slop with graphics, and character design which leans on overdesigned and busy.
