I wouldn't say the end was Nakao Boushi's "answer" to anything though. It felt very odd, very surreal, like they ended up in a bad end. It wasn't presented as a choice between truth and illusion it was more like a choice between a very slow death and a blaze of glory. Though i think your reflections are still pertinent to Cicionia, since that is the kind of question between truth and illusion is one Ryukishi is always interested in.

I enjoyed the Umineko chapter 8 and magic ending though I have some contrary thoughts.
At this point though I have to wonder if Ryukishi has gone too far down the magic path if you know what I mean, to write this kind of story. There must be objective truth. You must leave the LCL. If a devil kills you, revives you, and wipes your memory the sin must still exist.

And really, how does everyone's medically induced multiple personality disorder factor into this? That's the x factor that makes me really want to read on with Cicionia.
