Can I ask anon, when did you realize that you were never going to have a family? I was married briefly in my early 20's. I'm close to 30 now, and while I say I want a family, I'm really just apathetic about the whole situation. Had girlfriends, but none I've wanted children with. Only woman I've wanted them with is my ex wife, and that's obviously not happening. Not an antinatalist at all, it's just apathy. Was that how it was with you? Or did it just never happen, despite being something you wished for? In answer to your question, if I had a couple million I would probably do my research and get a money manager that would hopefully not fleece me. Put it into an index fund, or get mutual bonds. Would want it to grow since I am still fairly young. Would keep working because I don't actually hate working, and would want a purpose. Would still work towards becoming an officer in the military, would get my degree and go to law school if my commission fell through somehow. Would live off work and my military retirement, along with the dividends from said 2 million once I transferred them into bonds.
