I personally think Kefka was intentionally waiting for the Returners to regroup, or at least anyone to challenge him, because at some primal level he wants to be proven wrong. Why else wouldn't he just waste every town, where he clearly demonstrates he can do so at any time.
Instead he waits an entire year for all of them to regroup, reach him and tell him the answer to his question: What the fuck are you even clinging to this shitty existence for. He just is a pessimist as well as a nihilistic megalomaniac, so no answer was really going to sate his query.

My sentiments exactly. It really helped you see things from even the rougher or lesser characterized players. And as you said, giving interest to games you either dropped or never got around to, to further appreciate them.
Maybe one day Squee will get their heads out of their asses and release an offline version with the missing JP story that finishes it up. It definitely doesn't paint any of the Final Fantasys in a negative light, and utilizing FFX's turn based combat really is a fun way to enjoy Dissidia.
