Pretty much every slash alt member that weren't Adol got shelved hard for me. Pic related was super unmemorable and only ever froze poison rifts in the forest. Then Adol got the plot mulligan sword that finishes off those giant enemies, a combat feature.
Adol is always in the party so he's always relevant.
Ys 7 let Adol swap attack styles so it's not like it was an issue. Could have Geis or Elk handle slash.
Ys 8 Dana got plenty of time to shine in her segments so it wasn't like I could shelf her.
Frieda has a ranged steal and that's the only thing I can really give her. Don't remember ever needing to use it.
Also she has a barely-existent personality I genuinely don't remember what archetype she was supposed to be other than titty Geis.
