Lord Brocktree was a favorite of mine growing up.

Honestly, though, keep in mind these are kids' books, so don't go in expecting Tolstoy or Dickens. I guess if you haven't read a book since high school and need to get back into reading, though, they're a good way to start. Way better than some alternatives.
