You need to rewatch the episode, she absolutely is intentionally playing them. She starts off helping them when it's something that she's easily capable of and she believes will get her her freedom, then when they start pushing things she starts off with being slow and ineffective to get out of doing the work, then plays it up more and more once she learns that whining actually bothers her captors.
