Because we failed in pretty much all of our objectives because we thought we were a lot stronger than we actually were. The War of 1812 caused us to completely restructure our military and our economy(such as focusing on domestic industry protected by high tariffs). Had Britain not been busy in Europe(or had the war simply lasted a little longer), New England likely would have left the union at the Hartford Convention and America wouldn't even exist.
