Honestly, most people just don't know how to apply for jobs. It's really not hard. You know those requirements they list on the job posting? You edit your resume to match those requirements as closely as possible without lying too much. You use the same terminology, you exclude irrelevant skills/experience while playing up potentially relevant ones, you make it seem like you're the perfect candidate who matches the job description almost exactly. If you do that the automated systems that are currently trashing your applications before any human ever sees them will stop doing that. It takes like 3 minutes per application. You do that and your response rate will increase like 1000%. If you don't do that you might as well throw your applications in the trash. It's literally that simple.
