Natural animal instinct to eat as much as they can because they don't know when they'll eat again. Can usually be broken with training. My dog never begs for food off my plate. He begs my girlfriend sometimes cause she thinks feeding him from the table is cute. I don't mind because he knows not to do it before he's offered food but what's younopen that avenue he will pester you sometimes unless I tell him "not for dog" then he'll go lay down. It helps if you feed them well and on a schedule though so themat they're never actually that hungry. But yeah, instinct basically and most dogs can be trained out of it if you know how to reach your dog. I basically had to scold mine a few times, and give some positive reinforcement when he finally started leaving me alone. Usually he'll lay at my feet or on his bed. Sometimes he even goes to sleep while I'm eating, he feels comfortable there and he knows he's being a good boy. He won't even try to sniff my plate if I set it down and leave it. My buddy had a different method, he put hot sauce on his food and would leave it unattended on the table. Seems kind of mean to me but it worked, dog tried twice and never tried again.
With different animals it's a different story depending on how aggressive the dog is and how he sees the pecking order, if dog doesn't see you as absolutely above it you'll never be able to break them from being aggressive to other dogs. It's best for each dog to have it's own dish and for you to never allow them to eat out of another dog's dish. Maybe after the other dog is done eating but you can't let the 1st dog think it can bully the 2nd into giving up it's dish. It's your dish after all, you're letting them get their fill.
Obviously depends in the dogs though, if you have dogs with similar temperaments it's easier for them to sort it out themselves.
