I was curious so I graphed league-wide average starting field position (from pro football reference, data for this only goes back to 1998). This takes into account turnovers, I would rather just look at field position from kickoffs only but I don't know where to find that.
So what was the deal with the early 2000s? A lot of turnovers, or was there something different about kick returns?
