It's a continuation of bourgeois democracy as when wealth builds up, the bourgeois take over through the electoral process which then becomes beholden to both domestic and global capital. They did not have same kind type of land reform, or shake away the feudalistic mentalties of caste and the most extreme aspects of their religions that China or Russia did for instance. It lacks the strong planning instiutions of China or Vietnam. India's contemporary economy is becoming even further financialized with quick bubble valuations for start ups as that's easy to profit for the rich while the inequality is worsening.
