They probably expected Iran to collapse Syria style due to the surprise attack. Exactly WHY they thought a country of 90m with a martyrdom fetish that survived 8 years of the brutal Iran-Iraq war would collapse overnight due to some bombing when a shit hole like Syria took 14 fuckin years is probably due to Bibi replacing many elements of the Israeli government with religious Zionist freaks. Would also explain their failures in Gaza and Lebanon.

Now the question is what Israel does going forward. Their interceptor and standoff stockpiles are likely depleted while Iranian government stands emboldened with the people rallying around the flag. Years of infiltrator and sabotage networks are gone while Iran knows exactly how to pick apart their defensive net and hit even their most protected areas with hypersonic missiles.

Really the smart thing would be to just give up and accept the Arab Peace Initiative and end this autism but we all know that won't happen.
