they do. idk about tokyo area (aside from pst in roppongi, their pizza is great) but in kyoto there are several good italian restaurants, either traditional or ital/japanese fusion. I'm sure there are some good ones in tokyo too but I try to mostly avoid tokyo whenever I visit japan

I think japan will figure out mexican at some point. cocina orale and maximo in kyoto are both supposed to be good, hopefully will check out at least one of them when I go there next year. have you been to either?

what japan really sucks at is wine. every wine I've had from there sucks ass. takahiko pinot noir is supposedly good but it costs as much as a good bottle of echezeaux, and I'm not fucking around with japanese shit if I'm doling out that kinda money for grape juice
