Iran had like 4 S-300PMU2 batteries. Most of Iran's AD is/was home-brewed.

And imo the role of Iran's AD in the war has been understated. For example, the Israelis had to use cruise missiles to bomb the uncompleted Arak reactor, so it seems they were still worried about AD even when bombing such a useless and remote target 6 days into the conflict

I think it's an exaggeration to say that Iranian air defense was "silent". They managed to shoot down a bunch of Eitan and Hermes-900 drones. Israel used standoff weapons to strike the unfinished IR-40 reactor, so apparently they worried about Iranian AD even when attacking such a relatively unimportant and remote target. Obviously Iran couldn't shoot down manned aircraft if they mostly relied on standoff weapons when bombing targets in defended zones. Consider that Iran is a country whose area is 3 times that of Ukraine's, and Iran had less high-powered AD systems than Ukraine even before losing a bunch during the June 13 Pearl Harbor style surprise attack

We don't know exactly how effective Iranian missile strikes were because of Israeli censorship, however we do know that the Israelis called the Americans to bail them out and then eventually it was decided to just quit the war.

>much more impressed with israel
They have the tech, the money and the foreign backing... of course they are to be expected to have the upper hand.

>air superiority
>were flying directly over Tehran unopposed
>they don't have any more air defense
>their airspace is completely open to future attacks
>iran didn't manage to shot down a single fighter
Israel certainly had the air advantage, but I think the degree of their air superiority has been somewhat exaggerated. As released footage from the air raid on IR-40 reactor showed, they used standoff missiles to bomb this relatively unimportant and remote target. This indicates that they still worried about Iranian AD. Iran shot down several Eitan and Hermes-900 high-altitude drones, however if Israeli fast jets mainly relied on standoff munitions then of course Iran couldn't realistically shoot any down... Iran's own air force belongs in a museum.

>using relatively modern Russian systems,
Iran only had a handful of S-300PMU2 batteries, which is a relatively old Russian system. To put this in perspective, Ukraine started the war with about 60 S-300 batteries or equivalent high-end AD batteries, according to RUSI, and that couldn't keep drones and missiles out of Ukraine's territory, which is about 1/3 of Iran's in size.

>they promised to fire thousands but fired mere hundreds,
Why do you think such announcements were ever intended to be fulfilled? Whenever Iran announced missile launches, it was in many cases likely a ruse to try to send the Israeli air force on a wild goose chase and waste sorties

>Iranian refineries directly hit
Then Iran retaliated on Haifa refinery, forcing it to shut down
