If you can’t read the Bible you’re illiterate, if you can read the Bible you’re literate.

Simplified versions don’t count, but modern versions are fine. i.e. NRSV for English, modern but not dumbed-down. The grammar is intermediate at most for basically every language, and besides religious/period/geography specific words, it’s not overly literary. Picrel are the TL bibles I got when I started each respective language. I can generally read the left but not the right yet. Left is Latin, right is Chinese. I intend on getting monolinguals at some point. Technically I also have a Cymraeg bible but it really just belongs to someone close to me that I bought it for, who was actually studying Welsh and so can actually read it to some decent degree.
