>o actually give a new hero a fighting chance at building a fanbase you have 2 options, introduce them in a popular title and have them be a supporting character for a while as they build a fanbase
that's what mackay did with Hunter's Moon in Moon Knight and it unironically worked out great.
everything about Hunter's Moon could have gone horribly and been a dogshit blatant pandering attempt at replacing the character or forcing a new "diverse" legacy, but it didn't because he was actually introduced organically and stuck around to be developed as part of Moon Knight's supporting cast.
>He's brown because he's LITERALLY an Egyptian man from Egypt who lived in Khonshu's historical holy city, and was made a Fist of Khonshu after being murdered by vampires near one of Khonshu's ancient temples.
>Multiple people bearing the mantle of Moon Knight has been a thing since day 1 so it's not jarring, he's a thousands of years old egyptian god who's had many bear the mantle over the years
>he's not a replacement for Marc, he's a holy brother serving the same god
>he's not a 1:1 copy of moon knight's personality, or an attempt at an """"upgrade"""" like Miles, while Marc is uneasy about his service to Khonshu, Badr is a zealot. He's a true believer and completely devoted to Khonshu, even the unsavory aspects
>He's a doctor and healer to contrast Marc as a mercenary
>he's written to genuinely care about marc like a brother and views his duty as holy
>moon knight is still the protagonist and leader of the midnight mission, not relegated to side character in his own book
thank god mackay is actually good at his job and understands that a supporting cast's job is to actually support the hero and not be a royalties-bait attempt at shoving in new replacements for future writers to trot out
