I don't run D&D much anymore but when I did I was really into OSR and the older editions. Pic is the list of pre-made characters from Dwellers of the Forbidden City, published in 1981. You have a female monk, cleric, ranger, and fighter magic user multiclass, all of which are capable meele fighters. I'll grant the depiction of them was a lot different, very much chain mail bikini babes rather than "independent women" but to say
