>Ultimately the only question that matters is can a story be truly good if it's ultimately pornography?
No, pornography is the lowest genre and thus exists on its own plane of standards. Same goes for general fetish fiction. Trying to marry porn with normal fiction is ill-advised, though of course no one can forbid you from whatever literary perversions catch your fancy, but it will likely be shit. If your giantess story has 5 chapters of non-giantess shit at the start, I'm probably not reading it. There might be some merit to this approach if these 5 chapters foreshadow the fetish, like emphasize the girl's hot personality traits that will blossom when she becomes a giantess, but even then, you probably don't need more than one or two chapters for that.

This is probably my personal prefence, but stories shouldn't try to fit the fetish into conventional morality if the appeal is the cruelty of it. The very first Giant Bishoujo Adventure was great because Kyoko's violent nature as a psycho giantess saves the day and lets her win. The "likable" character overcomes trials and builds to some grand finale, but likability is determined by fetish rules, not by conventional morality. That's what I expect from a fetish game. Then episode 4 and onwards, the next games start challenging Kyoko's morality and usually end in some sort of a fucking unsatisfying whimper because the dev became determined to explore her psyche and have her reflect on her actions and have BPD breakdowns and do other things that stray too far away from her being a violent psycho giantess.
