With the cost of living, $1k isn't that insane to drop on a collectible.
That lasts me like 3 weeks on rent. If adults are the main audience, it's not out of reach.
I would expect something pretty spectacular in that price range though. I have the original 10188 death star that was $400 back in 2008. That's near $600 inflation accounted for today and this new one has more than double the pieces.
I think Lego is kind of missing the plot on offering mini sets though. As a kid, picking up tiny sets on allowance money was most of the magic of the toy. Big sets were only special occasions like Christmas or a birthday.
