What both can't be bad? You're still dropping hundreds of dollars on a png because cute/horny. And just as some gacha games have "pity systems" and transparent drop odds, so to do some lootboxes. The majority of gachas do not have this transparency so this isn't the own you think it is.
Really, the similarity is that all of them are poorly masked ways at taking advantage of main character syndrome in consumers to have very high RoI on small content releases which is bad for the industry, especially the consumer, as a whole.
