watching interview with the vampire made me realize ships used to be better when media was a lot restrictive. "baits" were either unintentional or left subtle and that made everything better because their dynamics and relationships are more fleshed out instead of focusing on "pandering" we have today. this is especially true for shounens like wsj, they used to have a lot of series with popular ships because the characters are just fun to invest time and interest to. now i barely recognize any of the newer titles or characters. i mean the "baits" are still there but it's just not the same anymore. everything feels too rushed and made me think why should i even care for these characters. as kumiko suekane say the fanservice was better when it was done subconsciously
