There's evil and evil
The game is really good in railroading you towards being a good boy, whilst also giving you plenty of reasons to hate everyone's guts after you've repeatedly saved their asses (except for the tiefling bard, she's nice)
But Karlach (and Jaheira) is the one I don't really feel any animosity towards: she's never outright rude or indoctrinated or schizo, she's just trying to get by and live her life. It's kinda like Ember in WotR, I always keep her safe even when I'm playing the most evil and heartless coward in the region and I feel bad whenever she chastises me.
Or at least these are my observations as of halfway thru act 3
