People tend to say the God of the Old Testament is a raging asshole & ignore that Jesus is cut from the same cloth. Jesus is the one that will send people to Hell at the end of the world and after death.

You're thinking of evangelical pop culture depictions of Jesus. Orthodox icons of him stress the fine line of grace and flaming discernment (judge). See picrelated comparison. Orthodox Jesus doesn't look like he'll love everyone.
