Madara has plenty of substance, he's a simple but well done character. He trusts no one else and wants revenge so he gets defeated team work. The only real problem with the chara is black zetsu, the guy ways up from being dead and suddenly believes everything this talking shadow is telling him including that it's part of his soul, that was kinda retarded.
