Apparently, Palworld said Nintendo never had 'smooth transition' between gliding and mounting (before Masuda forced them to remove the feature, you could transition between a flying Pal to a ground-based Pal), and that this patent was not infringed. So Nintendo went to the patent office, and had the wording changed, including 'even if the transition is not smooth'.
