Are the HD 8xx series headphones actually worth the cost?

The HD 650 are 400€, the HD 660 are 450€ and going up to the HD 800 S are 1600€, which is quite the big jump without any in-between models. I doubt that they're 4x the quality of the 650s, but are they even 2x?
