There is a difference between being depressed and feeling like the pain of existing has become so unbearable that you're willing to let go of all the things you wanted to do in life. All the places to go, relationships to build, a future family to love, personal projects to work on - because continuing to endure that suffering of the current moment or may a permanent change in your health, finances etc. And then decide to take your own life.

Killing children, raiding homes of what turn out to be just normal people with normal lives, pets, house plants, kitchens where food used to be prepared, then rigging the building and competing for the biggest explosions - and then finally being unable to come to terms with the crimes you have committed. Knowing that your imagined impact in the world would likely be better without you.
