It’s hard to know what was going on behind the scenes. She was clearly unreliable enough to not be a regular but she briefly got her shit together enough and Mulgrew pulled some strings to get her a final episode or something. As to why they chose such a brutal sendoff to take one final shit on the character is a mystery to me too. Maybe the producers did it out of spite for flaking on them; that sort of spitefulness seems difficult for me to conceive of, but I’m not Jewish Hollywood producer either. I dunno
