I don't think it matters that much, at least not in Ragebound's case. It's not like Ryu is much of a character. The real issue is that Yakumo looks like a zoomer twink and Kenji looks so similar to classic Ryu that he might as well have just been classic Ryu. When Shinobi swapped Joe for Hotsuma they at least had the decency to make Hotsuma look cool and completely different. Even Jiro in the 3DS Shinobi was a better move.
