Her ending struck me as totally different from the regular Guardian beast one considering no one dies in those. Amer's was very bittersweet and a bitter conclusion to the sins of the past. Thought it was very poetic how they end up treading the same fateful path their ancestors took.

But the whole game is weird magical stuff. Trees purifying the air isn't too weird. It's what trees do, after all. There are weirder things in Summon Night like the magical contracts and compulsory world emigration.
IIRC Nesty hacks into a weakened 機械魔メルギトス and sacrifices himself that way which is fucking awesome.
