Asuka and Shinji has trauma for her past childhood.
Rei is not even fully human, she is aware of that and has some huge mental issues. Just look her apartment.
The adults survived to the apocalipse.
It's like calling weak a child from Gaza or anyother shithole like sudan.

Second, Rei and Asuka never hated each other. Rei at worst ignore asuka. Asuka yells at Rei for her trauma. Asuka even proposed the ramen shop to include Rei in the party.
