people here are too stupid to realize that the art of game design lies in limitation
the challenge in a game like Castlevania is created by your limited toolkit and the enemy roster's ability to exploit said toolkit with careful positioning and their own abilities
if you gave Simon Belmont the ability to whip in any direction, a double jump, a parry, a backflip and more then he would technically have more freedom, but the game would lose all difficulty very quickly; why would I engage with the less effective mechanics when I have one that works all the time?
in games like Odyssey, BotW and Bananza, the player has so much freedom of movement and ability that they can trivialize any challenge the game throws at them, often by taking the path of least resistance, whether it's abusing cappy's throws or just smashing through the level itself consequence free
at this point you might as well give players jetpacks

>simple toolset that you're required to master
>the challenge isn't just the enemies but their placement on a screen
it's as simple as it gets, Castlevania is core good game design. you really need to commit and think about your approach and what you're doing
