I think the issue is that a substantial amount of people view media as disposable by design. You're not supposed to be enjoying a movie from 1930, you're supposed to be watching the new blockbuster. You're not supposed to be playing Mario Kart on the SNES, you should be playing Mario Kart World. It doesn't matter what level of artistry or creativity is involved, it doesn't matter how much you might love it, you're supposed to use media like you're squeezing juice out of an orange. You don't keep the orange after drinking the juice.
Maybe it's not a substantial amount of people who believe this but these people are certainly silent on it. To be fair it's not like there aren't more important topics that people should be getting up and arms about.
