There's a crucial detail you're missing. Most megacorporations aren't competing with other megacorporations for consumers, they're competing with themselves.
A lot of cars have the life cycles extended by third parties far beyond what they were designed for, making it unnecessary for new cars to be bought. By turning goods into live services you retain the ability to take them out off the market whenever you feel like (usually right before or after releasing new "product"). Taking it away from megacorporations will make games stay in the market possibly indefinitely, which will saturate the market.

The biggest hurdles for the entire campaign have been trying to get other people to help promote it (too many fags didn't want to waste time on something a bigger youtuber disagreed with or something that doesn't look like its already winning) and trying to find and reach out to non-english european content creators specifically to reach actual europeans (hard to do as an english speaker with a primarily english speaking audience). Ross has also been trying to get ads going for the campaign with what little funding he has, but he's had to deal with the fact that most countries will consider it to be a political ad which severely limits their reach, like this is the reason why the big GOG promotion ending up falling through. This is basically what Ross has been doing nonstop for the past year, the campaign lacking advertising wasn't for lack of effort.

I'm sorry, but as a european, part of the target audience and an early signatory I believe I have every right to criticize him and his trainwreck of a campaign I've witnessed.
Throughout the first 11 months of the petition, despite being a so called gamer, I only encountered a single Mutahar video and a gay american streamer drama about the WHOLE subject.
That's a fail, no matter how you slice it. No mention of it at the local gaming expos, no mention in local gaming media, no mention from national tubers or streamers, nada.

Ross was the wrong person to lead the initiative and he ran a godawful campaign that only worked out in the end because there was genuine interest in it succeeding once people actually HEARD about it.
