I don't know how Kabuto works, but the real-life horseshoe crab has ten eyes, along with several photoreceptors on parts of its body that help it find a mate or a beach for spawning.

In theory, those eyes should be functional; that's how they know when to flee from dangers coming from above, like large birds.
