At this point, I genuinely think they have to if they want to tell an interesting story again.
I know people want Meracydia. I do too, but I just can't see how at this point it would be an interesting narrative. All the world's major political powers are entirely united. The only adversarial one is basically in shambles, and agreed to be assisted by the others.
At least another shard could give a mostly fresh start for some conflict.
