I'm a casual player, but a completionist, i love doing all of the job quests every expansion for example but with this one i'm reminded that i'll just be hanging around Tural for all of them, and everything about it is so nonsensical and bad. Its not only the MSQ itself, the entire new world feels so cheap and unrealistic as an actual society compared to the rest of the game that i just fail to take anything that takes place in it seriously. Another example are the mamook tribe quests, i usually really like them but for the first time ever i started skipping cutscenes because its just these retarded lizards who have never tried planting anything other than a banana being retarded

Presentation matters greatly to even someone who couldn't give the slightest amount of fuck about a game's story. The worldbuilding is the most important part, i feel. FFXIV excels in making places that feel like they could be real in their own reality. Each of the countries have texture, history, their share of problems and unique attributes. Tural legitimately does not feel real, it feels like a themepark made for the WoL. Its just a jumbled mess of simplistic, one-note tribes. The crafter goblins craft. The salesmen tribe sell. The lizards are retarded and only know how to eat bananas. The giants remember the dead. That's all there is to them. Its so baffling when compared to the worlbuilding in any other expansion.

For DT, at least. The worldbuilding 'tism used to be a huge part of XIV and all of the writers (and Koji) were in on it. Matsuno, Oda, the 1.0 writers, and even Ishikawa had the worldbuilding 'tism. As someone that started in 2021 because PSO2NGS broke me, I invested a fuckton of time and money into XIV so it's sunk cost fallacy even if I haven't subbed since DT launch. I stopped playing this game in A Realm Reborn's story when some farm guy lied to me openly to my face about the primal I was looking for and I could do nothing about it until the guy's boss burst into the cutscene and chewed him out for lying. I wanted to do that.

After uninstalling, I watched Asmongold play the ending of A Realm Reborn and observed how the player character continued to do nothing and need other people to do their job for them.

There's very little going on unless you play tank or healer. If you're tank or healer then yes there's a shitload of incoming damage to manage, but that's all. Mechanically there's very little.

M6S was also a fight that was harder on Tanks/Healers than DPS and that always leads to people thinking its the hardest fight ever because its a rare fight where people realize the skill ceiling on support is higher than DPS.

He's like every single character in DT where any potentially interesting plot points or personality he could have is erased and resolved in the limpest way possible.
Koana started out in a way that could have been interesting and had potential drama and character growth. But it got thrown out to make him simp for his ugly sister and his dramatic backstory got resolved by pure happenstance in just about the least satisfying, most boring, least character-building way possible.
Gulool Ja could have been interesting in living in the shadow of his evil father and having to grow into his own as a leader but his role as king is literally never relevant to the story and there is not a single thing dealing with him growing into the role or having to learn and develop. The drama with his backstory is resolved by him just being chill and wise beyond his years so it doesn't really bother him. The characters important to him just fucking die and he doesn't have any angst or exploration of his character.

A lot of these issues across all characters are because of two main reasons:
>Dawntrail is completely unwilling to do something challenging, intense, or dramatically risky with the story.
>Wuk Lamat hogged so much spotlight that other characters didn't have the space to get enough screentime for their own arcs.
So you get everybody's shit being resolved at a breakneck pace in the quickest, cleanest, least dramatic way possible. There's no character conflict or bite to anything because you can't have a significant portion of time spent on Gulool Ja (who lives in a society that has never known death) dealing with the fact that the friendly robot that raised him just exploded right in front of him and is dead forever. He just kind of gets over it. You can't have a patch about Gulool Ja having to struggle with his role as king and learn how to delegate to people that know better and learning how to govern. Because politics can be risky.

So few people defeated Ifrit that there's a plaque in the Flames headquarters naming the few people who managed to come back alive. Minfilia never asked to fight primals, the responsibility of Louisoix's mission was just shoved onto her. All she wanted to do was help other Echo users find steady work.
