A lot of historically socialist aligned African governments were associated with removing Arab influence and colonialism as well. This actually terrifed Europeans because it put their funding of said governments in the cross hairs historically. The 1969 Somali Civil War is an example calling for a return to Somali identity rather an simply adopting Arabic idenitty although olive branches were extended to Arabic culture. Some saw a complete split as well. An example includes the Chadian Civil War which saw people identified as Chadian nationalist identifying with Christianity to remove Arabic colonialism
