That's Amuro's moniker. He has that reputation because he did those things. Nobody accidentally attributes Amuro or the RX-78-2's accolades to any other Gundam or pilot, either.
It's also not like there are a lot of OYW stories where they keep repeatedly mistaking another Gundam for Amuro's model or say, Johnny Ridden for Char. E.g., no one in 0083 looks at Kou's GP01 and shits himself, thinking it's the White Devil. No one does the same for the Alex either.
There's like a grand total of maybe 3 stories where it happens once in each story, or maybe some throwaway line from a game 20 years ago. Hardly something that actually causes pain and frustration in the fandom, and usually played for laughs more than not.
Besides, you can still be called "the [whatever]" and it'll make sense as long as the context is there.
