well there's Mordred Hood who is a comic character I really like and an example of how a Snake character could look as a Sonic critter. I'd probably have it be that they can have arms but as a hard rule no legs, Mordred's are cybernetics like the rest of his suit. The main thing with making an animal into a Sonic character is how their unique features can be translated into the bodytypes so for example a Leatherback Turtle could be shaped like Storm or Boom Knuckles.
