Pardon me if everyone else has already reached this conclusion but I don't think this was a live phone call to Kris's phone. Nobody has addressed Kris in the third person like this, so I doubt the speaker was addressing Kris directly. Also, Kris isn't even holding up the phone or anything. So I think this is a recording of Carol and/or some other party talking about their plans and Kris. It's only in the second phone scene that we see Kris actually dial the phone and hold it up.
