Thanks! Good luck with school! Bacterial genetics are a lot of fun, if you get time in the wet lab I'm sure you'll love working with them. I did my undergraduate thesis on acquired antibiotic resistance in bacillus and it involved some plasmid work so I can totally empathize with the enthusiasm : )
Expressing GFP in various bits of cells is a very common thing for biochem/mcdb labs to have you do, so you'll almost definitely get to do it eventually. Here're some of mine from a few years back!
Sorry to give advice unasked for, but if you're not with a laboratory right now, look for programs with your university - or, if none exist, cold email some of your biology professors - that will place you in a lab as a research intern. Not only is it super fun, you'll learn really quickly in a practical environment, and prior lab experience is a must for a grad school application/resume. Can't recommend it enough.
