Humans are the source of youkai's existence. It doesn't matter if the origin of a myth has a real explanation, what matters is that humans believe in these tales, and this is what allows youkai and their weaknesses to exist.
It's a matter of faith. If hundreds of people believe they can impregnate a vampire, then vampires can have children.
