22 years. I’m not the sharpest or cleanest but I can figure out anything I feel like by ear in most cases, have 20 years worth of riffs and songs, played in half a dozen bands and played some good shows in front of a couple hundred people. I feel pretty good with where I’m at, which is as a hobbyist who’s retired the dream of being a full time musician before it got sad and desperate. I have old friends who still beat the horse and I don’t begrudge them, but playing your teenage or early 20s music in your mid 30s is rough if you haven’t really gotten anywhere with it. What’s funny is I got significantly better at guitar after I stopped expecting more than a good time out of it.
