Choosing the Crescent or the Crown
September 11, 2020
Saudi Arabia, the de facto head of OPEC, has dissolved into a four-way civil war. Oil prices have surged, which means profit for Rodina for now. But the real question is what faction does Russia support in the civil war.
Two choices have been presented by the FSB. First, supporting the Saudi King bin Salman and internationally-recognized government could be beneficial if they are willing to resolve their differences with Iran. If they are unwilling to resolve their differences, then the second choice is backing Hezbollah, Iran's ally in the region.
Overtures have been sent to the Saudi King, and Russia awaits his decision.
In other news, the Tigray Defense Force has revolted from Ethiopia. The Government is sending an armored division as an intervention force to support the TDF. Ethiopia is backed by the West, so any thorn in its side helps Russia.
